WHAT'S COOKIN' SEAN?: PINAKBET

This i had the other day and when i told Sean, he said he will cook the same over weekend.  Vegetables, well, although some not available but it is good to go.  This is a mixed vegetable recipe using local produce such as bitter gourd or "ampalaya", ladyfinger or "okra", pumpkin,  string beans, eggplant, tomatoes, garlic and onions.  Pork or shrimp may be added.  Shrimp paste is added to spice up the recipe.  You can still cook this recipe in the absence of any vegetable...like in this one, the eggplant.  Seldom that he gets them in the market because often times they are not in a very good condition.  He does not settle for mediocre vegetables and fruits.

ON FOOD TRIP: VANILLA CUPCAKE BAKERY

Vanilla Cupcake Bakery, ATC Branch.
A peek on the glass wall.

The Menu from the wall outside.

Nicole love this area.  Sorry, photo a little blurry.

I knew my niece, Nicole, would love this shop.  She is into pretty little colorful things and this place is like in one of her storybooks.  The interior is awesome, from the wooden chairs to the lights and loungers.  It is so colorful as the variety of cupcakes in there.  I've read somewhere that their furnishings are from Heima store.

Rating the place 10 out of 10!

ON FOOD TRIP: OPORTO

Snack time for my Baby at OPORTO!

Hmmm...I just wondered which branch in NSW he has been. Was it in Eastgardens or Kingsford?  This is a late post already and i can not remember the branch he had these fries and Bondi bites (or were they grilled strips?).  Lol!   Anyways, try out Oporto when in Sydney.  Hit the link to check out varieties on their menu and find store near you.

ON FOOD TRIP: THAI BEEF BARBECUE

This was what Sean had for lunch on a Monday.  He had Thai beef barbecue.  Probably he had this at Khings'.  He loved the dip...not the sweet chili one, he said. So that will have to be the one with white something on top.  I forgot to ask him if it was vinegar with minced garlic and other spices in it. I just gaped at the photo when he showed me.

SEAN'S FOOD TRIP: SUNDAY POTLUCK

Live Blogging!

Sunday potluck today! Sean's aunt and cousin came over with roasted chicken and mixed veggies & fruit salad.  Sean prepared fish the regular way he does.  One of the best lunch times he ever had!  He had almost finished one of those bowls of salad by himself!  He just loved how her aunt mixed all those greens, corn kernels, tomato wedges, cucumber and avocado slices. Well, who wouldn't love those... just judging by the look of those bowlful of freshness!  Drool y'all mate!

SEAN'S FOOD TRIP: LOTUS MOONCAKE

I love Mooncakes!

This special one was given to him by his aunt.  I told him i like one with yummy yolk inside.  Then he broke it in the middle and showed me two rich egg yolks inside!  I was overwhelmed...for the love of mooncake!

Mooncake is Chinese of origin and usually eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival.  Made out of thick filling made out of red bean or lotus seed paste surrounded by thin crust and may contain yolks from salted duck eggs.  Traditional ones have imprints on top of Chinese character for "longevity" or "harmony".

ON FOOD TRIP: BELGIAN WAFFLES

Did my regular Sunday chores of going to the supermarket for some groceries.  I was not able to have breakfast because i woke up late.  I noticed that smell of freshly cooked batter as i got out of the supermarket.  And here was where it was coming from.  It made me missed freshly made waffle sandwiches with kaya filling of Singapore.  This one is from Malaysia, so i thought to give it a try.  I ordered for blueberry, ham and cheese, and cream cheese.  I needed to wait as the other molders were broken and few customers were already ahead of me.  I got them on my turn.  They were hot and right there i wanted to eat them.  But then i got too much to carry and was in a hurry to get back home.
So, i had them with my fruity yoghurt when i got home.  Waffle sandwiches were too soft unlike the ones from Singapore and not much filling in it like on the posters.  Oh well, kids love them anyways.
