WHAT'S COOKIN' SEAN?: CHICKEN SOUP

A late post...

It was a cold weather then when Sean decided to make this chicken soup.  Ingredients usually what are available inside the refrigerator. Chicken cutlets, potatoes, carrots and jalapeÅ„os.  Luckily, he was able to get some Enoki mushrooms.   Hot from the pot was what he likes for a chilly moment.

WHAT'S COOKIN' SEAN?: MISUA SOUP

Another soup recipe we really love.  An easy to prepare and cook rice noodles soup.  Misua, can be spelled as mee sua or misua, is a Chinese noodle made from wheat flour.  It originated from Fujian, China. This is one of the thinnest kind of rice noodles. So thin it can be cooked in less than 2 minutes in boiling water.  There are many ways on how to cook this kind as soup.  The most simple and quickest for Sean is this one, cooking it with meatballs and Enoki mushrooms, topped with toasted garlic and chopped spring onions.  Too hot for his palate.  Careful now Baby! lol!

SEAN'S FOOD TRIP: PRESERVED BAMBOO SHOOT

WHAT"S COOKIN' SEAN?: LEMONGRASS GARLIC CHICKEN

Chicken marinated in Lemongrass, minced garlic, a little fish salt and dash of ground pepper is what is cookin' down under.  Lemongrass is taken fresh from Sean's little garden. This native herb is easy to grow especially in warm regions and now widely use in cooking for most Asian countries because of its aromatic citrus flavor with a trace of ginger. It is also an ingredients to many Indian and Vietnamese recipes.  Maybe you can grow them too and have it fresh from your garden.

ON FOOD TRIP: FAT CRABBY

Not the best photo shots i know, but i want to post them anyways.  Some Rock crabs cooked in coco milk with jalapeÅ„os, pumpkin, ginger and green leafy veggies. The crabs were fat! The top shells were almost filled with crab fat. The spicy chili, thick coco milk, and the goodness inside the crab makes this recipe rich and flavorful.

A lot of misconceptions about these crustaceans, so here are some nutritional facts about crabs:  It does contain some fat, but it is generally unsaturated fat which is considered heart healthy. Crab is also a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to improve memory, decrease the chances of having a heart attack, decrease risk of cancer, and possibly help to improve depression and anxiety. Crab is also a good source of vitamins A, C and the B vitamins including B12, and minerals like zinc and copper. It is a source of selenium, which may be a means of preventing cancer. Crab also has some chromium, which is considered a useful mineral if you have insulin resistance, as it may improve blood sugar metabolism. Crab is an excellent addition to most diets, being low in fat and calories, but high in protein and nutrients.(source link)

WHAT'S COOKIN' SEAN?: EGG SALAD

Wondering why uploading photos straight from my phone to blog here on blogger app makes the pictures blurry and i am not so happy about it.  Uploaded from my laptop now.  Anyways, here is to share Sean's egg salad. Prepared just to have some break over tedious repetition of food recipe for the week. Simple and easy recipe also this is!

ON FOORD TRIP: JAPANESE CORN

Some afternoon snacks with the kids!

Steamed Japanese yellow corn on the cob still served hot from the pot.  I love butter melting and little salt all over it.  This should keep the kids busy.

ON FOOD TRIP: @ PADI'S POINT RESTAURANT & BAR

I had a little drink with the homies at Padi's Point, MOA. This one is located by the seaside area.   I love tower drinks in different colors.  I have always love blue colored drinks. They got live band playing. You can choose to be seated outside where we decided to be at that time.  Best location of Padi's that i have been to.

Speaking of, the area is located at the back of Mall of Asia.  A perfect location especially on a weekend.  This is one of the places you can  checkout especially if you got kids who are fond of rides like carts, octopus, zip line, inflatable water walking balls, and more.  A lot of restaurants you can dine in like Buffet 101, Vikings, The Star Movies Cafe, Blackbeard's Seafood Island to name a few.

Eye of MOA, photo taken earlier (no filter)

And of course, there is the Eye of MOA, if you want some time to just do the 360 scenic view of the bay and the metro.

ON FOOD TRIP: TOKYO TOKYO

CATCHING UP OVER LUNCH!

It has been like 10 years since i have last seen my cousin.  She is like a sister to me. Even with few years older than her, we have been buddies, did things and gone to place together.  She got her own family now and a pretty little smart daughter who i haven't met in person yet.  Took the time to see my cousin while i was assigned to one of our offices which is near their home.  Spent lunch with her and there were so much to talk about.  It was so nice catching up with her.  The years have set us apart but minutes together covered up those years.  And of course, time is not always enough for us.  I am hoping for more moments like this with her and to finally see her daughter.

Anyways, she wanted to eat here in Tokyo Tokyo, probably because she is into Japanese food as she stayed in Japan for years, and it was her treat..lol!  We had beef misono, california maki, chicken katsu and red iced tea.   We really had a great time!

ON FOOD TRIP: SIZZLING PLATE BAGUIO

Sizzling Plate Baguio, SM Baguio
T-bone Steak
Fillet Mignon and bacon
Pineapple Shandy
We were on a road trip and Baguio was our next destination before we head back to Manila.  Just before meeting an old friend from Singapore at Mines View Park, our gang decided to head out SM City for lunch. We settled on the tables outside Sizzling Plate. I am not fond of sizzling plates like in some food courts in malls so i was at first hesitant to dine here.  But we needed some long table and more space to accommodate us. Too late to back out as they already started ordering.  As we got our food, we noticed that the sizes were not that bad and the side dish veggies were still crunchy.  Well, we were in Baguio, where veggies are cheap and fresh.  Going back to our food...i say not bad. I liked it. Each meal was served with gravy and java rice.  Weather was not that cold but just cool enough to enjoy the food and drinks.

We rate this out of 5:
Food: 4
Ambiance/Location: 5 (well, it is in Baguio!)

ON FOOD TRIP: BLACKBEARD'S SEAFOOD ISLAND

OYSTER ROCKEFELLER
ATC BRANCH
ENSALATANG LATO

CRAB RICE
PORK SISIG
Posting this late. I have been a little busy these past few weeks and was not able to do updates... but better late than never.  Here it goes:

Shopping during Christmas season was draining.  We were out to get our dearest friend a gift for his (post) birthday.  That was right after work.  We had our dinner-shoping-break at Blackbeard's Seafood island.  But then we were just three of us so we just ordered some ala carte on the menu instead of their usual Boodle feast group meals.

We ordered Oyster Rockefeller, Ensalatang Lato (grape seaweed salad-made up of grape seaweeds, green mango slices, onions, tomatoes, salted egg and crispy dried anchovies served with anchovy sauce), Pork Sisig, Crab rice and Beef kare-kare (beef brisket in peanut sauce served with shrimp paste on the side..sorry i forgot to take photo of this).

The ambiance here was better compared to their MOA branch, though with regards to the service...they still need to work on that. Took us long before i got our Kare-kare take away and also they were just not sure who to hand it over to...gah!

LET'S CELEBRATE

It is Sean's birthday!  Happy birthday Baby!

A little celebration for this special  day.  The week's work were tiring and leaving Sean no time to go market.  So.....we are having the usual.  He cooked some fried rice noodles with everything on it. (veggies and chicken).  Traditionally, it is never a birthday without some noodles on the table, which the oldies say represent "for long life".

Also, a whole roasted chicken (chopped) from our favorite peri-peri resto, Nando's, is ready on the table for our disposal!  Got his Smirnoff Black chilled for later.

And for dessert some fresh fruits, ripe mango and apples.  Ripe mango shape is kind of rounded unlike the usual ones we regularly had, which was kind of oval.  But just the same, oval or not, they are the sweetest!

WHAT'S COOKING?: STIR FRIED SHREDDED BAMBOO SHOOTS

One of my favorite easy to cook veggies are stir fried fresh shredded young bamboo shoots with a little of vinegar and soy sauce. Added a dash of salt and pepper to taste.  No meat added just sauteed with onion and garlic.

ON FOOD TRIP: BIBIMBAP

BIBIMBAP, a Korean recipe literally means "mixed rice".  This is served in a bowl of steamed white rice topped with vegetable, beef slices and a raw or fried egg. Thorough mixing it all together before eating.

ON FOOD TRIP: KIMCHI

Never without Kimchi when dining Korean cuisine.  Kimchi is a mixture of fermented napa cabbage, raddish, scallion or cucumber.   I was not into it before but my liking started when i had it often in Singapore and also after learning its nutritional and health benefits.  I love spicy food but not too hot. Some Kimchi taste though i can not tolerate. I always do the taste test first..a must!
